The Challenge Ahead: MEPs and national parliamentarians convene to discuss climate change

On 1 and 2 October the European Parliament and the Portuguese Assembleia da República will host a Joint Parliamentary Meeting on Climate Change: Rising to the Challenge. The event will enable national and European representatives to discuss issues such as strategies for adapting to climate change, emission reductions, particularly in the housing sector, and renewable energies.

The Joint Parliamentary Meeting will be co-chaired by European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pöttering and President of the Portuguese Assembleia da República Jaime Gama.

Other scheduled speakers include:

  • José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission
  • Stavros Dimas, Commissioner for Environment, European Commission (tbc)
  • Stefan Rahmstorf, Professor of Physics of the Oceans, Potsdam University
  • Francisco Nunes Correia, Minister for Environment, Portugal

The Joint Parliamentary Meeting will take place in room 3 C 50 in the Paul-Henri Spaak building of the European Parliament.
