Working Party on Enlargement and Countries Negotiating Accession to the EU (Coela)

This working party is in charge of the enlargement process and of the relations with the candidate countries which are negotiating their accession to the EU.

It mainly deals with:

preparation of the accession negotiations and EU negotiating position

assessment of progress made by the candidate countries in meeting the accession criteria

relations with the candidate countries within the framework of the Association Agreements

This Council working party (nr. B.19) examines the legislative proposals by the European Commission in its field of expertise that are sent to the Council of Ministers. This body is composed of experts from each member state and is chaired by the delegate of the country holding the rotating six-month presidency of the Council.
